Peridot is a very pretty yellow-green gemstone. It's color can vary from pale (and more yellow) to a beautiful deep yellow-green to a nearly black green, depending upon its composition. In a sense, peridot is quite common, as the Earth's mantle (which pours out as volcanic lava in mid-ocean ridges and a few island hotspots, such as Hawaii) mimics the composition of olivine (peridot).
